Goodspeed

Jerry “Boo-Boo” and Georgia Goodspeed celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 6 with a celebration with family and friends at The Cornfield in Fly Creek.

The party was put on by their children and grandchildren, Betty (Goodspeed) and Tom Steele, Sue (Goodspeed) and Jerry Gage Jr., Sherri Goodspeed, Jim Goodspeed, Mike and Michele (Huckabone) Gage, Jessica (Gage) and Mikey Talbot.

More than 80 people were in attendance, with music by Now-N-Then DJ & Karaoke Service by Deb & Leo. The couple arrived at the Cornfield in a horse pulled wedding carriage driven by Greg Hall. A cake featured the couple’s 25th anniversary cake topper and a new 50th anniversary cake topper, with a recent photo of the couple in the middle. A re-creation of their original wedding cake, topped with the original wedding cake topper was made by the couple’s daughter Sherri Goodspeed. A video montage created by the couple’s grandson Michael Gage was presented to the couple. The video was also shown during the party.

Jerry Goodspeed and Georgia Flint were married Oct. 6, 1962, in a double-ring ceremony at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Cooperstown by the Rev. Alfred Almstedt. Attendants were Katherine, sister of the groom, and Cecil Jr., brother of the groom. The bride wore a white net dress and a corsage of pink roses.

Jerry and Georgia were both born and raised in the Cooperstown area. Jerry worked for the town of Otsego and is a member of the Native Sons and American Legion. Georgia worked for the Otesaga Hotel and Bassett Hospital. Both are now retired and live in Toddsville, where they have resided for the past 36 years. They enjoy spending time with their cat, Cuddles, and all of their “grand dogs” and “grand cats.” They also enjoy NASCAR, traveling with their camper and having get-togethers at their home and Ponderosa.

The couple continued to celebrate their anniversary with a train ride to the Old Forge on Oct. 13 and are planning a 50th anniversary “honeymoon” trip to Alaska in the spring.
