Sgt. Walter “Tel” St. John came home on leave after serving with the 107th Division Company, U.S. Army. The unit was stationed in the Pacific during World War II. Tel was the first veteran in the Triple Cities to be discharged under the point system (107 points).
He met Dorothy Morenos. They were united in marriage in the United Methodist Church in Walton by the Rev. Henry Lincoln on April 22, 1945. They lived in Johnson City until 1948. They then moved back to his childhood home in Walton, where they still live.
They have one daughter, Susan Franklin, who lives in Port Jefferson Station.
They attend the Plymouth Church on Sundays, and are able to do their own shopping, eating out and visiting friends and family. They have enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and a special trip to Hawaii.
They will celebrate their 69th anniversary on April 22.
