File The headstone and monument business flourished in the 1860s. This advertisement appeared in the Jan. 13, 1864, edition of The Oneonta Herald, although at the bottom a date from a year earlier is seen. Ads regularly appeared for long periods of time in newspapers of that era. Only a few months later in 1864, T.S. Gault had developed a new ad like this that said he had moved his business to a new site, 'a few doors east of the Oneonta Creek bridge.' This was likely on Main Street, near today's Gault Avenue in the city.
