---- — The Walton Theatre, at 31 Gardiner Place in Walton, will host two concerts in the coming week.
First up is Local Seisiun presented by Coffeehouse at the Theatre at 6 p.m. Sunday on the second floor of the theater.
The event will be hosted by Local Seisiun (“Session”) and will feature traditional Irish dance music and song.
According to a media release, the band joined together as a group of local musicians who share a love of Irish music and “who enjoy keeping an old tradition alive.” The group grew out of a weekly session that began more than five years ago in Bainbridge and helped create the name.
Band members and instruments include Steve Eisenburg on whistle, open-hold wooden flute and bodhran; Jim Haggerty on white and open-hole wooden flute; Kathy Shimberg on fiddle and piano/keyboard; and Jean Withrow on concertina.
All of the players have played in other groups and some play a variety of other kinds of music and instruments. The performance is free and open to the public. For more details, call 865-6625 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Music on the Delaware will present duo Kim & Reggie Harris at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 in the main theater. An open jam session will start the event at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor.
As musicians and storytellers, the duo combine a strong folk and gospel legacy with a solid background in classical, rock, jazz and pop music, a media release said.
For more than 30 years, the husband-wife team has performed throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. The pair has released eight albums, including the latest, 2012’s “Resurrection Day.”
The Harris’ have performed at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institute and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The Philadelphia Daily News said of the pair: “Kim and Reggie inspire a sense of joy and exhilaration that lifts the soul … makes you want to sing and celebrate your neighbor. Music that make you come alive!”
Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $30 for a family. For more details, call 865-6983 or visit www.waltontheatre.org.
