---- — West Kortright Centre, at 49 West Kortright Church Road in East Meredith, will present the Hector Del Curto Eternal Tango Trio at 3 p.m. Sunday.
According to a media release, Del Curto is one of the world’s leading bandoneon (Argentinian concertina) players, known for “his piercing, wistful solos.”
Joining him will be cellist Jisoo Ok and pianist Gustavo Casenave.
The group’s music mixes the energy and electricity of the tango with original compositions — including jazz improvisations — written by Del Curto.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Del Curto has performed in Carnegie Hall, been praised by the New York Times as a “splendid player” and shared the stage with tango legends including Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Pugliese, pianist Pablo Ziegler, jazz clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera, ballet dancer Julio Bocca, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., the Buenos Aires Symphony, and Teatro Colón Ballet.
The musician was named Best Bandoneon Player under 25 when he was 17.
Cellist Ok received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School and was the winner of the 2003 New Juilliard Ensemble’s Concerto Competition and the National Symphony Orchestra’s Young Soloist Competition.
Pianist Casenave has performed with NY-Buenos Aires Connection, NY Tango Trio and Advantango in NYC, as well as toured worldwide with Broadway show “Forever Tango.”
Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for WKC members and $11 for those 19 years old and younger. For more information, call 278-5454 or visit. www.westkc.org. For WKC members, there will be an appreciation reception at 4 p.m. before the concert.
