MURAL exhibit to open in Hobart

The Mount Utsayantha Regional Arts League announced the first show of the 2013 season at the new “Mural On Main” Gallery in Hobart. The exhibition “Color and Form” will present the paintings and collages of Barbara Ardan and the sculptures of Dennis Stahl. The public is invited to the reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the gallery at 631 Main St. MURAL will offer refreshments from Harpersfield Cheese and Tundra Brewery.

Since 1983 when MURAL began showing at the Frank W. Cyr Center in Stamford, hundreds of local artists have been represented. The “Student Show,” which each year highlights the work of young people from five area schools, opened in March at the Cyr Center.

Each year MURAL presents bi-monthly exhibitions showcasing the works of local and  regional artists. The rest of the exhibit calendar includes “Primitive Expressionism,” from July 6 to Sept. 2, and “Black and White” from Sept. 7 and Oct. 27.  The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Fine crafts such as pottery, felted scarves, jewelry and many other items from local artists will also be on display at the gallery.

Annual fine arts show to open

The Jericho Arts Council’s annual Fine Show will open Saturday and run through Friday, May 10, from 1 to 7 p.m. each day.  On May 11, the show will open at 1 p.m. and end after a 3 p.m. reception for the artists. The show is held on the second floor of the Town Hall Building on Main Street in Bainbridge. Admission is free

The art show features work in four categories: oil and acrylic paintings, watercolor and gouache paintings, graphics and mixed media, and photography. Prizes will be awarded in each category, and a Best of Show and Tennant Award, for realism, will also be given. Visitors to the show will vote for their favorite pieces, and the winning piece will be given the People’s Choice award.
