WKC to audition young artists

The West Kortright Centre will hold auditions for Opening Acts: Young Artists Showcase 2013 at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the West Kortright Centre’s auditorium.

Now in its 22nd year, the showcase invites youths and young adults ages 10 to 21 from Delaware, Otsego, Chenango and Schoharie counties to audition for the opportunity to perform for five minutes before scheduled WKC performances by professional musicians.

Auditions will be considered in dramatic scenes, readings of original work and vocal and instrumental music. This year’s young artists will be chosen by a jury of arts professionals including violinist Carol Erlandson, oboist René Prins, guitarist Dennis Turechek, and soprano Johana Arnold.

Anyone interested in auditioning is asked to call or email in advance to confirm their participation and what they will perform. A piano is available, but performers must provide their own accompanist.

To get an audition registration form, download it at or request one by emailing or by calling 278-5454.
