---- — Band to play Salute to Veterans Concert

The Oneonta Community Concert Band will present its annual Salute to Veterans Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Mary’s Parish Center on Walnut Street in Oneonta.

The concert program will include “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Overture Courageous” and Freelance March “On to Victory.” Joining the band will be two vocal soloists — soprano Rebecca Sabin and bass Steven Markuson — for “Will You Remember Me” from “Maytime” and other pieces.

Concert to feature work of hymn writer

Brian Wren, an internationally known hymn writer, will be a guest at a free Festival of Brian Wren Hymns at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church at 69 Fair St. in Cooperstown.

According to a media release, many of today’s hymnals feature Wren’s work, including “God of Many Names,” “Christ Upon the Mountain Peak” and “Christ is Risen.”

A newly written hymn will be presented set to music by Christ Church organist Roberta Rowland-Raybold. There also will be a festival choir open to the public; those who wish to participate will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Gallery to present open mic, jazz group

The Gallery, at 128 Main St. in Stamford, will host an open mic night from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The stage is open to all ages, styles and skill levels. Performers get in free; presenters suggest a $5 donation for others.

The venue also will present a concert by the Rich Mollin Jazz Trio at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Mollin is a performing and recording artist, along with a SUNY Oneonta bass instructor.

Joining him will be fellow SUNY Oneonta teacher Bill Farish on guitar and Stamford-area drummer Marcel Smith.

Autumn to host hurricane recovery event

As part of a Hurricane Sandy benefit, local bands Sophie Gault & Company and Tough Crowd will play at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Autumn Café, at 244 Main St. in Oneonta. All proceeds will go to the Oneonta Relief Corps, a group of SUNY Oneonta students helping with rebuilding efforts. Cover is $3, with donations welcome.
