---- — The Cooperstown Art Association will host an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today for three exhibits. The reception will feature music by Joe Siracusa and Evan Jagels.
“Refigured: Form and Fracture in the Paintings of Allison Hill-Edgar” will be on display in Gallery A; “Postcards from Cooperstown,” the annual miniature show, will be in Gallery B; and the 48th Annual Fine Arts Show of the Leatherstocking Brush & Palette Club will be in the Ballroom Gallery C. On Sunday there will be an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. in CAA’s new classroom space at the CAA Big Red Annex Art School at 5 Railroad Ave. in Cooperstown.
“Refigured: Form and Fracture in the Paintings of Allison Hill-Edgar” is an exhibition of the artist’s achievement in dissecting and reimagining the human form from a variety of perspectives, according to a media release from CAA. Through portraiture, Hill-Edgar seeks to reflect the person we encounter in the world, as well as his or her essence, spirit and beauty. Her abstract works explore the human body — its “systems, facets and miraculous whole” — as influenced by space, time and intention. As a doctor and artist, she has a “unique understanding of the human form and functions as well as each person’s individuality,” the release said. This exhibition marks the solo debut presentation of Hill-Edgar’s work in a public setting and will be on display through July 5.
“Postcards from Cooperstown,” featuring miniature works exploring the theme of all things Cooperstown from landmarks to vistas, buildings, industry and postcards, is on display through July 5. Participating artists include Dianne Bordley, Robert W. Blanton, Geri Brose, Jane Carr, Pat Castka, Judy Curry, Patti Ferrara, Deborah Geurtze, William H. Greer, Doug Jamieson, Lynn Jones, May-Britt Joyce, Ann and David Kiehm, Abbey Koutnik, Dianne Kull, Jean Lyon, Mary Nolan, Donna Schorf, Maryann Stow, Janet Teshke, Maria Tripp, Laurie Virovoy and Cheryl Wright. The show will include wall hung work and sculptural pieces exploring Cooperstown depicted in 4-by-6-inch postcard size.
The 48th Annual Fine Art Show of the Leatherstocking Brush and Palette Club will welcome work by area member artists, including Frederick and Michelle Arnold, Judy Curry, Edith Dayton, Marjorie Harris, Tina Kiel, Abbey Koutnik, Carol Lernihan, Abigail McEnroe, Lois Petty, Ellen Preckel, Dorothy Schrull, Dorothy Smith, Janet Teschke, Dave Webb, Donna Wells, Carole Westerman and Margaret Woodrow. The show will be on display through June 26.
