EOH to host music, trio of art openings Saturday

Saturday will bring two events to the Earlville Opera House at 18 E. Main St. in Earlville.

From noon to 3 p.m., the venue will host opening receptions for three exhibits: "Carchitecture" by Jeff Mann in the West Gallery, "Future Pleasures" by Eunjung Hwange in the East Gallery and "Dancing at Rainbow Gardens and the Peaceful Mind Series" by Bette Alexander in the Arts Cafe Gallery.

Mann uses the realm of cars and automobiles in his paintings to "look inside our own Gotham City," a media release said. Hwange's work captures dreams and subconscious images translated in visual characters, the release said.

And Alexander said she drew inspiration for her oil sticks and oil paintings from the Rainbow Gardens dance/beer hall near her summer studio in rural upstate New York. Her work is featured in the U.S. Arts and Embassy 2012 desk diary "Homage to American Women Artists."

The exhibits run through Sept. 15 and are free and open to the public.

Master guitarist Sonny Landreth and his four-piece band will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday. His music mixes rock, blues and Cajun genres.

Entertainment Weekly called Landreth a "bona fide guitar hero."

And said the musician is "part slide guitar, part blues, part soul and part rock. Landreth's style sounds like a rock guitarist who has discovered you can have fun with a slide/bottleneck approach."

Tickets are $27 for the general public, $25 for EOH members and $22 for students.

Next up at the EOH is Gilbert and Sullivan's "Patience," starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.
