---- — The Artists’ Palette at 29 S. Broad St. in Norwich will host the work of abstract painter Elijah Brown as part of the third Fourth Friday event today in downtown Norwich. There will be an opening reception at the gallery from 6 to 8 p.m., with music by Cliff Clune of Cluneytunes.

Roughly 13 merchants take part in the downtown art walk in storefronts, with pieces from more than a dozen different artists.

Jill Kraft, Fourth Friday coordinator and owner of the Jill Kraft Gallery in the Artists’ Palette, said: “I want to continue to bring art into the area and offer people a night out in Norwich. I offer all types of artwork ranging from abstract to realism to photography and sculpture. This month’s artist’s works range in size and and are a variety of acrylic abstracts, many of which are new.”

Brown, who lives in the Unadilla area, said after living in other parts of the United States, “it feels good to be back in upstate New York,” a place that “inspires him to concentrate on his art.”

Brown will have roughly 40 paintings on display during the show, and he said, “The majority of these were recently created; no one has seen most of them.”

The artist said of the works set for the exhibit: “There is no general theme to the work; they all start with an idea of shape and go from there. … They are all heavy with emotion.”

In addition to the painting, Brown will display his abstract bonsai series.
