---- — The West Kortright Centre in East Meredith will present The Vanaver Caravan at 3 p.m. Sunday.

According to a media release, the a dance troupe’s  mission is to celebrate differences in culture and tradition through dance and music in an effort to unite the world and give hope to our communities. Its production, “Pastures of Plenty” is a celebration of the life and work of folksinger Woody Guthrie. Vanaver Caravan will takes the audience from Los Angeles to Manhattan, from the Dust Bowl to the Grand Coulee Dam, from the miners’ shanties to the outlaws’ trail, and from the lonesome highway to the Union Hall.

New York Times critic Alistair Macaulay described the piece as “dance that connected clogging (in particular), tap, soft-shoe, barefoot and acrobatic idioms to reveal American folk lines in movement.” He also wrote, “This 90-minute tribute seamlessly embraced many facets of Guthrie’s America: the hobo vision, the affection for children and innocence, the Dust Bowl ballads, the compassion and anger caused by injustice, the loyalty to music itself as a life force.”

The Vanaver Caravan was established in 1972 by musician/composer Bill Vanaver and dancer/choreographer Livia Drapkin Vanaver.
