---- — The Cooperstown Art Association will open three exhibits featuring art from the community on Friday, Sept. 27.
The opening reception, from 5 to 7 p.m., will feature a vocal performance from Glimmerglass Young Artist Sarah Parnicky at 5:30 p.m. and music by Tim Iversen from 6 to 7 p.m. Food and drinks will be served.
“OPERA-tion Arts”, an opera-inspired art show by area second-graders and The Glimmerglass Festival, will be on display in Gallery A. OPERA-tion Arts is a free, interactive education program that culminates in an opera-inspired art show at The Cooperstown Art Association. The students were offered the opportunity to learn more about opera and theater with The Glimmerglass Festival’s annual education program. Glimmerglass staff joined Cooperstown and surrounding area second grade classes to offer a multi-media presentation on opera. The students then illustrated their impressions of the art form, producing everything from drawings of performers, scenes and costume shops to sketches of original operas.
“Sacred Wednesdays” in Gallery B is a group show of five local women who put aside their afternoons each Wednesday to create, exchange ideas and encourage each other’s creativity. This exhibit by artists Geri Brose, Dianne Bordley, Dianne Kull, Pat Spencer and Cheryl Wright will include a variety of subjects in watercolor, pastel and oil.
“Water, Water Everywhere” is the theme of the Community Photography Contest sponsored and presented by the Otsego Land Trust and Otsego Lake Association. About 150 photographs are presented on the walls of Gallery C in youth, amateur and professional categories. The theme, “Water, Water Everywhere” was intended to “emphasize the importance of water in the lives of people, plants and animals.” Photographs of dew, clouds, streams, rivers, ponds, springs and wetlands in Otsego County and surrounding towns are represented in this stunning exhibit of local and regional talent.
All three exhibits will be on display through Oct. 25 at the Cooperstown Art Association galleries at 22 Main St. in Cooperstown in the Village Building on the corner of Main and Fair Streets. Admission is free and open to the public. The galleries are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
