Smithy Center for the Arts will have its second gallery opening of the season for The Smithy Pioneer Gallery on Monday, marked by an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition to the artwork, the John Gill Ensemble will perform live in the courtyard, and there will be hor d’oeuvres, wine and beer courtesy of Brewery Ommegang.
Titled “Revisionary: Saturated Mindscapes,” the exhibit launches to all three floors of the gallery. The artists reveal how a shared landscaped changes dramatically from one artist to the next, each revising and reimagining the world in their work, according to a media.
On the first floor, exploring the different perceptions of one shared landscape will be the main feature and exhibit by three Smithy member artists, Elissa Gore, Joanna Murphy and Jody Primoff.
The second floor will feature “Eye of the Beholder,” a show highlighting unique artistic interpretations that will be curated by member Henry Drexler. Oil paintings by member artist Richard Redmond will also show on the second floor in a solo exhibit.
On the third floor, four artists — Ruth Hardinger, Jenna North, Ron Throop and Patrick Vedder — will respond to the national debate over fracking through their artwork. Throughout the gallery, a sculpture installation of human forms by guest Michael Stolzer will also be highlighted.
