The Cooperstown Concert Series will present Annie & the Hedonists at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Otesaga Resort Hotel at 60 Lake St. in Cooperstown.
The group blends acoustic folk, torchy blues, standards, bluegrass, gospel and early jazz, along with a sampling of honky tonk.
The band interprets the songs of female artists of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, including Bessie Smith, Sippie Wallace, Memphis Minnie, Billie Holiday, Rosetta Tharpe, Blue Lu Barker, Ella Fitzgerald and others.
Lead vocalist Annie Rosen is “recognized as a premier interpreter of the great female blues and jazz artists of the 1920s-1940s, as well as adept at multiple musical genres,” according to the group’s website, annieandthehedonists.com.
Guitarist and vocalist Jonny Rosen is Annie Rosen’s husband. He learned the alternating bass style of finger picking studying Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt and others.
Peter Davis — on clarinet, tenor guitar, piano and vocals — spent three years in Malawi, Central Africa, where he directed his school’s a cappella group and jammed South African zulu jive with his students.
Don Young, who plays upright bass and sings, has been a professional musician for more than 30 years and plays many styles, including swing, rock , country, jazz, folk, Celtic, Hawaiian, Dixieland and children’s music.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and college students, $8 for students 13 to 18 and free for youths 12 and under.
