---- — “Blackgrass” band the Spectacular Average Boys will bring their alternative-bluegrass music to 6 On The Square on Thursday as part of the cafe’s Emerging Artist Series. The group will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the cafe in Oxford.
“Hailing from the rolling calico hills of Oneonta, the ‘Boys are spreading tales of murder and black-hearted exes, through their floor-pounding, lung-busting ‘blackgrass’ music. They’ve created an alternative style all their own proving… there’s nothing ‘average’ about them,” a release from the cafe read.
The Average Boys began in 2010 with frontman Ned Brower and bass player Joel Shue. The group was later joined by Justin Ploutz on guitar, and Eric Ball on drums.
A five-track album titled “The Burning of York” released in June showcases the group’s folk and Americana roots, mixed with louder, aggressive influences of 1990s alternative music.
Tickets for the concert are $7. Doors open an hour before showtime. For information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit www.6onthesquare.org.
