Catskill Choral Society to perform winter concert

---- — The 70-member Catskill Choral Society will continue a 44-year tradition with its winter concert, “Enchanted Mysteries of the Human Voice,” this weekend.

Performances in Oneonta will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church on Chestnut Street and at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Church on Walnut Street. A reception will follow the Saturday concert.

The program will include Vivaldi’s “Gloria in D Major,” Peteris Vasks’ “Dona Nobis Pacem,” Arvo Part’s “Magnificat,” Stephen Chatman’s re-harmonized choral arrangements of “Good King Wenceslas,” “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming,” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” Craig Courtney’s arrangement of “A Musicological Journey through the Twelve Days of Christmas” and Wilhousky’s arrangement of “Carol of the Bells.”

Led by musical director Timothy Newton, the choral society will sing with the Catskill Chamber Orchestra and local soloist Johana Arnold. The Catskill Choral Society Girl Choir also will perform a separate program.

The Catskill Choral Society is a community-based choral group singing a wide variety of music. The group usually performs one or more concerts per semester, often with an orchestra.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students in advance. Tickets at the door are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Tickets are available in Oneonta at Artware, Green Earth and The Plains at Parish Homestead; in Unadilla at Country Computers & Publishing; in Sidney at Corky’s Wine & Spirits; at catskillchoralsociety.org; and from all choral society members.
