The Daily Star

---- — Oneonta Concert Association will present violinist Tim Fain at 7:30 p.m. today at the Oneonta Theatre, located at 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.

Fain’s multimedia solo show, “Portals,” features audio and video collaborations with other artists, including Philip Glass and Leonard Cohen.

The New York Times said Fain, a veteran of symphonic halls and film, “plays a mean violin.” The Washington Post said, “Fain has everything he needs for a first-rate career.” And the Boston Globe called him a “charismatic young violinist with a matinee idol profile, strong musical instincts and first-rate chops.”

He was selected as one of Symphony and Strad magazines “Up-and-Coming Musicians,” and has won the Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Young Concert Artists International Award.

His repertoire includes Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Aaron Kay Kernis and John Corigliano.

Fain has performed with the Baltimore Symphony with conductor Marin Alsop, at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

The musician has worked with jazz pianists Billy Childs and Ethan Iverson, guitarist Rich Robinson and appeared at Jazz at Lincoln Center with singer-songwriter Rob Thomas.

Fain also was seen onscreen and heard on the 2010 soundtrack of the film “Black Swan.” He also can be heard as the sound of Richard Gere’s violin in 2005’s “Bee Season.”

OCA Young Artist Jacob Efthimiou will play short pre-curtain cello selections at 7:15 p.m.

Admission is $20 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets are available at The Green Toad Bookstore and at The Eighth Note in Oneonta and at the door. For more information, visit
