OCA to present Duo Parnas

The Daily Star

---- — Siblings violinist Madalyn Parnas and cellist Cicely Parnas will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the First United Methodist Church at 66 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.

The sisters — fresh from performances in New York City, London and a tour of France with the French Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire — are quickly establishing themselves on the international music scene, a media release said.

The pair won first prize in an international competition at Carnegie Hall and has appeared at the Lincoln and Kennedy centers, as well as at festivals in New England and Texas.

The New York Times called a recent performance “stunning,” with “the cello and violin lines perfectly balanced and suffused with electricity and drama.” Metroland said the sisters “both have impressive virtuoso chops,” and the Times Herald-Record proclaimed their playing “vivacious and intense.”

Madalyn Parnas is completing a master’s degree as a Marshall Scholar at London’s Royal Academy of Music. Cicely Parnas has appeared on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” as Young Artist in Residence.

The pair will be joined by French pianist Vincent Adragna, who previously appeared with the duo at LaChine Music Festival in Montreal. The program will include a work by local composer and musician Carleton Clay, as well as selections by Brahms, Ravel and other modern composers.

Before the curtain, Oneonta Concert Association Young Artist Jacob Efthimiou will play a short set on cello at 7:15 p.m. The 16-year-old toured Asia last summer as a principal cellist for the Empire State Youth Orchestra.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $6 for students. For more details, call 433-7252 or go to
