Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem to play at RAG

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem will bring its fusion of American roots music with pop and jazz to the Roxbury Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

On stage, they are Rani Arbo on fiddle and guitar, Andrew Kinsey on bass, banjo and ukelele, Anand Nayak on electric and acoustic guitars and Scott Kessel on percussion. Kessel’s percussion rig is 95 percent recycled, featuring a cardboard box, tin cans, caulk tubes, and a vinyl suitcase in lieu of a bass drum. All the band members sing.

Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem’s repertoire includes more than a century of American music as well as originals. Always with respect for a song, the band maintains their own identity by sometimes taking lyrics written for an Irish fiddle tune and then underscoring them with an Afro-Cuban canon, giving a Leonard Cohen number a clawhammer banjo treatment and bluegrass harmonies just might weave through a Springsteen tune, according to a media release.

Advance tickets for Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem are $19 for adults and $17 for seniors and students. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $24. For tickets and more information, call the Roxbury Arts Group at 326-7908 or visit www.roxburyartsgroup.org.

The programs of the Roxbury Arts Group are made possible in part by the support of the New York State Council on the Arts, the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation, 2013 season sponsors Jan Andersen Fine Art Services and WIOX Community Radio 91.3 FM, and by donations from individual community members like you.
