---- — Two series of musical performances presented by the Roxbury Arts Group will debut this week and will continue into the fall.

The Essential Thursdays Series will feature three performances curated by world-class pianist Jungeun Kim at the Old School Baptist Church in Denver. The Carriage House Theater at 76 MAIN! in Stamford will be the venue for “John Scarpulla & Friends — Unplugged & Intimate,” featuring New England singer-songwriter Scarpulla and a variety of musical guests. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Kim, director of instrumental accompaniment and outside performances at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and executive director of the New York State Music Festival  held in Oneonta every summer, has curated three programs for the Essential Thursdays series, which will start Thursday with a jazz quartet featuring Janelle Reichman on tenor saxaphone, Matt Davis on guitar, Bob Sabin on bass, and Gernot Bernroider on drums.

Essential Thursdays will continue with a classical duo featuring Kim on piano and Saeka Matsuyama on violin on July 11. Completing the program, a woodwind trio featuring Robert Phillips on bassoon, Pascal Archer on clarinet and Dr. Mark Snyder on oboe will take to the stage on Aug. 1.

Advance tickets for Essential Thursdays performances are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $20.

“John Scarpulla & Friends — Unplugged and Intimate” will begin June 29 with guest Walter Hornung, known for his bands Hornung and The Brotherhood of the Grape and the Q-South band, and his blend of rock and Trinidadian soca. A July 27 performance will feature American blues singer-songwriter Sophie Gault, who will sing and play guitar. The final performance, on Sept. 21, will feature acoustic singer-songwriter Mike Poulopoulos, whose influences include American blues and roots music. Each artist will perform his or her own set, then join Scarpulla on stage.

Advance tickets for John Scarpulla & Friends performances are $11 for adults and $9 for seniors and students. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $15.
