FSC to host ‘JANE’ readings

Franklin Stage Company’s season will continue this weekend  with two rehearsed readings of “JANE,” a comedy about love and marriage. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Written in 1947 by S.N. Behrman, and based on a short story by Somerset Maugham, “JANE” is the tale of a guileless but astute “country cousin” who rattles, ruffles and transforms her high society London family, and its elaborate web of relationships, merely by telling the truth  and acting on it. 

FSC is in Chapel Hall at 25 Institute Street in Franklin. Reservations are recommended and can be obtained by calling 829-3700 or reserve@franklinstagecompany.org. More details about FSC’s season can be found at www.franklinstagecompany.org.  

Doobie Brothers to perform

The Doobie Brothers will take the Belleayre Music Festival stage at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The California band racked up a string of gold and platinum albums, along with hit singles like “Listen to the Music,” “Black Water,” “Jesus is Just Alright” and “China Grove.”

Founding members guitarist/vocalist Tom Johnston and guitarist Patrick Simmons will lead the band at Belleayre. Belleayre Music Festival concerts are held on the grounds of Belleayre Mountain in Highmount.

Julliard jazz ensemble set 

Friend of Music will host its fourth concert of the season at 3 p.m. Sunday, featuring a jazz performance through the auspices of the Juilliard School in New York City. 

This is the third year Friends of Music has included a jazz concert in the series. 

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert at the Cyr Center in Stamford. Parking is available. There is a suggested donation is $12 per person, and $6 for seniors and students. There is no charge for those younger than 13.
