Bright Hill to present paintings, collages

The Bright Hill Word & Image Gallery will host the first exhibit of the spring with “Christine Alexander’s Paintings & Collages.” The show opens with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 94 Church St. in Treadwell.

According to a media release, Alexander grew up surrounded by pastels and clay, caned chairs, sewn clothes and crocheted tablecloths made by her mother. Since then, Alexander has worked as an artist, graphic designer, jeweler, photographer and gardener.

The artist has designed illustrated print materials for the North Carolina Symphony; created design, photography and text for the Third Century Artists: A North Carolina Public Arts Experience; and developed print and exhibitions designs for state cultural activities in North Carolina.

In her East Meredith studio, Alexander works with paint and paper, a sharp knife or sharp brush in hand. She said in the release that “the tactile and visual qualities of the materials are as satisfying as the art itself.”

The pieces featured in the exhibit were created between 2006 and 2013.

The show runs through April 26. For more information, call 829-5055.
