6 On The Square will celebrate its seventh anniversary with birthday cake, raffles and a performance by award-winning singer-songwriter SONiA of Baltimore, Md. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the nonprofit arts venue at 6 LaFayette Park in Oxford.
According to a media release, SONiA (Rutstein) is a songwriter and visual artist whose “powerful honesty touches folks of varied social and ethnic backgrounds especially those moving toward a positive World Vision.” SONiA sings in Hebrew, Spanish, Arabic and English, and has received the GLAAD award for Best Album and performed with Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger.
Tickets are $22 in advance if purchased online, and $25 at the door. STudent tickets are $2; reservations are requested. Doors open an hour before showtime.
An exhibit of mixed media artwork created by students of Oxford Academy High School is on display at 6OTS through August.
An autographed quilted wall hanging featuring the signatures of musicians who have performed at 6OTS will be raffled off during the event. Raffle tickets are $2 each, or an arm’s length for $20.
A 50/50 raffle will also take place, with a limit of 200 tickets to be sold at $10 each. Second prize will be a tote bag filled with 25 CDs. Proceeds will support programming at 6OTS.
