Orpheus Theatre will hold auditions for all roles in its fall production of “Hair” at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Mary’s Parish Center on the corner of Walnut and Elm streets in Oneonta.
The “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical,” with book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot, is set in an East Village park in 1967 New York City. It focuses on the musical story of a group of hippies celebrating peace and love with the shadow of the Vietnam War darkening their path.
Classic hits from the show include “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Age of Aquarius” and “Good Morning Starshine.”
No preparation is needed for the auditions, with musical selections and scenes provided. Those who audition are asked to wear comfortable clothing, as choreography will be taught during the audition.
Because of the adult content in “Hair,” actors must be at least 16 years old on or before Sept. 12 to audition. Any actor younger than 18 will be required to submit the written consent of their parent or guardian upon being offered a role.
Those interested in auditioning who are unable to attend either date can submit a video audition by uploading a video of them singing a song of their choice to YouTube and emailing the link to firstname.lastname@example.org.
