The Cooperstown Art Association will host its annual gala Preview Party and awards ceremony to herald the opening of the 79th Annual National Juried Art Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 11. Prizes will be awarded at 6 p.m. Mary Doherty will perform music.
The 79th Annual National is a juried art exhibition organized by the Cooperstown Art Association, which is open to all fine artists. The show encompasses a variety of media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
“With entries from across the United States, the show is always both eclectic and stimulating,” a media release read. “This year’s National features many narrative works, challenging the viewer to contemplate the possible stories and thought processes of the artists.”
Juror Sondra Freckelton of Oneonta will present a gallery talk and tour starting at 4 p.m.
The gallery is also exhibiting the work of this year’s Cooperstown Art Association Scholarship Award winners: Catherine Borgstrom of Cooperstown Central School, who will attend California College of the Arts, and Zellah Minor-House of Oneonta High School, who will attend the State University College at New Paltz.
The 79th Annual National Exhibition will be on display from July 11 through Aug. 15. The galleries are at 22 Main St. in the village building on the corner of Main and Fair streets. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 547-9777 or visit www.cooperstownart.com.
