---- — ‘Connections’ to be performed in area
Catskill Theatre Works Inc. will present “Connections and Misconnections,” a performance of four short comedies about love, marriage, baseball and aliens, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church at 296 Main St. in Oneonta.
Subsequent performances are scheduled for 3 p.m. May 5 at the West Kortright Centre in East Meredith, and 7:30 p.m. June 1 at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Delhi.
Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students at the door. Seating is limited. For more information, call Al Davino at 746-7396.
Jazz duo to play at SUNY Oneonta
The Hewitt Pantaleoni Memorial Concert Series at the State University College at Oneonta will present a concert by the Tony Romano-Michele Gentile Jazz Duo at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The program, which is sponsored by the Catskill Conservatory, in association with the College’s Music Department, will be held in Room M201 of the Fine Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.
According to a media release, the Romano-Gentile Duo is a well-known ensemble on the New York jazz scene, employing a style of jazz rooted in Brazilian musical traditions.
Tuesday’s program is part of the Catskill Conservatory’s 39th annual Spring Music Festival. For more information about the program, call the Conservatory at 436-3419.
Gershwin musical to open Wednesday
The SUNY Oneonta Department of Theatre and the Mask and Hammer Theatre Club will present the musical comedy “Of Thee I Sing,” featuring music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, opening Wednesday, with performances through April 27.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and at 2 p.m. April 27, in the Goodrich Theater of the Fine Arts Building on campus.
The play features a large ensemble cast and an orchestra of student musicians. The musical, a political satire, is the first to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize. The score includes segments of “An American in Paris” and several well-known Gershwin songs, including “Of Thee I Sing,” “Who Cares?”, “Because, Because,” “Jilted” and “Love is Sweeping the Country.”
Tickets are $10 for general admission, and can be ordered at www.oneontatickets.com, picked up at the Hunt College Union information desk weekdays between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., or purchased at the Fine Arts box office an hour before curtain on performance days. Students with a valid ID will be admitted free.
