Franklin Stage to host doublebill of comic operas

The Daily Star

---- — Franklin Stage Company will host a double-bill of two one-act comic operas composed by two Italian masters born centuries apart.

Pergolesi’s 1730s “The Servant Wife,” sung in Italian and performed with supertitles, will paired with Gian Carlo Menotti’s 1947 English-language farce “The Telephone” for two performances at Chapel Hall.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Presented by Opera Oggi New York, these two short operas show the characters as they “hurtle and procrastinate and crash-land their way toward marriage,’ according to a media release.

Under the artistic directorship of Thomas Lawrence Toscano, the Brooklyn-based Opera Oggi presents high-quality productions with the young singers in unique venues in diverse neighborhoods in New York City.

Located in Chapel Hall at 25 Institute St. in Franklin, FSC was founded on the principle that great theater should be available to all, and remains admission-free with donations accepted at the door. For reservations, call 829-3700 or email
