The State University College at Oneonta Music Department will present “An Evening with American Composer Tobias Picker” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room M201 on campus.
Picker is an internationally celebrated composer of operas, orchestral works and chamber music. He will listen to students perform excerpts and arias from his five operas and will give feedback.
A presentation about the operatic works of Picker will be given by professor Anthony Scafide. Singers from the voice studios of Colby Thomas and Timothy Newton will be featured. The excerpts and arias for the program will be taken from the following operas: “Emmeline,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “Therese Raquin,” “An American Tragedy” and his most recent opera “Dolores Claiborne.”
Audience members will have the opportunity to ask Picker questions about his work and greet him after the event.
The Glimmerglass Opera Company of Cooperstown will present Picker’s opera “An American Tragedy” from July 20 through Aug. 24. For more information, visit www.glimmerglass.org.
