Manhattan Brass, a “Critic’s Pick” of Time Out New York magazine, will headline Oneonta Concert Association’s final series concert on Friday, May 23.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Oneonta Theatre at 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta. OCA Young Artist Zak Aldridge will open with a short set on saxophone. The event is the finale of OCA’s five-concert season.
Manhattan Brass includes Wayne du Maine and Lew Soloff on trumpets; RJ Kelley on horn; Michael Seltzer on trombone; and David Taylor on bass trombone. The group has released five albums, and performs classical to contemporary works in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to clubs, festivals, and shows on National Public Radio.
Aldridge is a Milford Central senior and is first chair saxophonist in his school’s concert and jazz bands. He has also participated in New York State School Music Association Area All-State ensembles, and learned sitar as an exchange student in Thailand. The opener is part of OCA’s Young Artists program, highlighting young area performers before each concert.
Admission is $25 for adults or $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Oneonta Theatre box office, and in advance at The Green Toad Bookstore at 198 Main St., and at The Eighth Note music store at 10 South Main St. in Oneonta. Advance tickets are recommended. Admission to this concert is free to new subscribers to OCA’s 2014-15 season.
