brass choir to perform

The Hartwick College Music Department brass choir will perform twice in Oneonta on Sunday. The group will be caroling brass holiday music in Muller Plaza downtown at 1 p.m. while Mrs. Claus hands out candy canes.

Following this show, the group will move to Southside Mall for a 30-minute set of holiday music starting at 2 p.m. Both concerts are free and open to public.

Oxford group to

host sing-a-long

The Oxford Historical Society will present a sing-a-long program, “Season Songfest and Christmas Memories” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Oxford Memorial Library Community Room at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford.

Oxford Academy Music Director Michael Moren will lead high school students in nostalgic tunes and some more modern holiday numbers with Louise Spicer at the keyboard.

Audience members are invited to share their Christmastime memories and pictures.

Afton theater

to stage ‘Cheaper’

The Afton Community Theater will perform “Cheaper by the Dozen” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 8, as well as at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.

The play focuses on the Gilbreth family — including 12 children — and how the father (played by Steve Oakley) and mother (played by Eileen Tallmadge) struggle to raise their children in the 1920s.

The play is based on the book by time- and motion-study expert Frank B. Gilbreth and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, dramatized by Christopher Sergel.

Others in the cast include Leslie Tallmadge, John Palmetier, Joseph Sager, George Palmetier, April Leggett, Bill Stafford, Melanie Tomas, Amelia Reuter, Jamey Lashway, Lauren Felldin, Jerry Hedman and Travis Hubbard.

Orchestra to play Beethoven, Mendelssohn

The Catskill Symphony Orchestra will present Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in SUNY Oneonta’s Hunt Union Ballroom.

The concert also will feature Mendelssohn’s “Fourth Symphony,” as well as the orchestra’s premiere of Edward Greene’s “Once Upon a Time.”

Violinist Ida Kavafian, cellist Peter Wiley and pianist Jungeun Kim will play Beethoven’s concerto.
