CANO exhibits feature married artists

The Community Arts Network of Oneonta is presenting two exhibits by husband-and-wife artists Tony Woolner and Gayle Gleckler, titled “In Plane View” (featuring paintings and monoprints of the Northeast as seen from the air) and “Two Views of India” (images of the people and the country as seen by both artists) at the CANO Galleries in Wilber Mansion at 11 Ford Ave. in Oneonta.

The exhibits opened Friday will be on display through July 28.

Woolner is an award-winning professional architect who graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and did his graduate work in architecture at Harvard. His contemporary home designs have been featured in many prominent design magazines. As an artist, he has evolved an original monoprint technique over the years using a blend of media to achieve his result.

Gleckler attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Design degree . She went on to graduate studies at New York University and taught at The School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has had a successful career in advertising. She created many award-winning campaigns, the most well-known being “I’m Gonna Wash that Gray Right Outta My Hair” for Clairol. She also co-wrote, produced and cast “The Lords of Flatbush,” Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler’s first movie.

They have traveled extensively and have had collaborative art exhibitions inspired by South Africa, Botswana, China, Portugal and India. Their first collaboration was “In Plane View,” monoprints and paintings done from photographs the two took from Woolner’s Piper Cherokee plane flying around New England.

The gallery is open 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays. It will also be open by appointment, by calling 432-2070
