Gold- and platinum-certified hit makers Kansas will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Oneonta Theatre, 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
During the 1970s and '80s, Kansas put together a string of hit songs including "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On Wayward Son."
The group is touring in promotion of its live DVD "There's No Place Like Home," filmed in 2009 in the band's home state of Kansas.
The band formed in 1973, and became well-known for its 1976 album "Leftoverture" and 1977 album "Point of Know Return."
According to a media release, the group brought two phrases to prominence for rock fans: "Air guitar" and "arena rock."
The band features singer/keyboardist Steve Walsh, drummer Phil Ehart, violinist David Ragsdale and guitarist Rich Williams.
Ehart said in the release that Kansas remains popular because "We have the best fans in the world. ... New fans are discovering us everyday ... thanks to video games, movies and TV shows that use our music."
"Carry On Wayward Son" can be heard on soundtracks for the movies "Happy Gilmore," "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and "Old School," as well as on the video games "Guitar Hero II," "Guitar Hero Smash Hits," "Rock Band 2" and "Rock Band Unplugged."
The song also appeared on episodes of "Scrubs," "South Park," "Family Guy," "Strangers with Candy," "King of the Hill," and "Supernatural."
