---- — At 7 p.m. today, 6 On The Square will offer a free outdoor concert by the Pesky J. Nixon Trio in LaFayette Park in Oxford.
Boston-based PJN brings influences from contemporary urban balladeers, rowdy Southern bluegrass and the sardonic yet wry wit of New England’s localized folk scenes, according to a media release.
In 2010, PJN released its first studio album, “Monkey Business & Mislaid Hopes,” which was listed among the top records in the industry. The band’s newest album is “Red Ducks,” released in 2012. In homage to the group’s first album, a statue of a monkey travels with the band.
The show begins at 7 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating.
6OTS, at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford, is also seeking participants for its third annual Golf Outing on Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Blue Stone Golf Course. The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and refreshments, with registration before the 10 a.m. shotgun start.
