---- — Beginning Saturday, the Earlville Opera House Arts Center will open its galleries with the quilts of six nationally and internationally exhibited, award-winning quilters: Erika Carter of Renton, Wash., Kevan Lunney of East Brunswick, N.J., K. Velis Turan of Earlton, Pat Pauly of Rochester, Marcia Eygabroat of Canandaigua, and Erin Wilson of Brooklyn.

The six women have a variety of backgrounds and experience.

Carter has authored a book on quilting art and has shown her work in Sweden, Germany, Japan, Iceland and Peru.

At age 9, Lunney first began sewing and by high school she was making all her own clothes. Her quilts have been exhibited in France, Africa, and Russia.

K. Velis Turan’s quilts involve silk screening, fabric painting and photo transfers.

Pauly teaches workshops and is a frequent consultant for designing and curating textile exhibitions throughout the U.S.

Eygabroat uses digital photography and fabric “puzzle pieces” to create architectural details rarely seen in fabric.

Wilson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Juilliard, performed for eight years, and then turned to fabric. She has exhibited her quilts nationally, and will have a show in Japan in November. She does extensive custom sewing for the interior design industry.

The contemporary quilt artwork will be on exhibit at EOH from July 13 through Aug. 3 with the Celebration of Regional Quilts Show. A community reception on Saturday, July 20, will be held from noon to 3 p.m., with light refreshments and KidsART as part of Earlville Community Days.

KidsART Activities will include a special effects makeup workshop from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. face painting designs will be offered .

The EOH galleries are at 18 E. Main St. in Earlville. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call (315) 691-3550 or visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com.
