The annual gala preview party and awards ceremony to herald the opening of the 78th annual National Juried Art Exhibition at the Cooperstown Art Association will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The reception, catered by Dana and Kristen Leonard of Origins Café in Cooperstown, will feature music by Mary Doherty. The prizes will be awarded at 6 p.m.
The 78th annual National is a juried art exhibition organized by the Cooperstown Art Association, which is open to fine artists from across the country. The show encompasses a range of media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. This year’s juror, John Magnan of New Bedford, Mass., will present a gallery talk and tour at 4 p.m.
In addition to the National Exhibition, CAA will have an exhibition case featuring the work of this year’s Cooperstown Art Association Scholarship Award Winners. The 2013 scholarship winners are Joanna Bening of Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School who will attend Eckard College, and Julien Miller of Cooperstown Central School who will attend the State University College at Purchase.
The 78th annual National Exhibition will be on display in all three galleries of the CAA through Aug. 16 and is sponsored by the Fenimore Art Museum and Brewery Ommegang. The galleries are located at 22 Main St. in the Village Building on the corner of Main and Fair streets. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
