Main View Gallery & Studio’s fall exhibit, “Food Glorious Food,” will opens with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 73 Main St. in Oneonta.
In a media release, Artistic Coordinator and Curator Zena Gurbo said, “food is one of our favorite topics of conversation and a source of inspiration here at Main View Gallery. Working with local artists, we approached this theme from many different angles including plein air drawings with Richard Kathmann at Greenane Farms, egg tempera painting with Jane Carr, and works in different styles and mediums created during open studio.”
Main View Gallery artists also worked cooperatively with two local food businesses, Green Earth Health Food Market and B-Side Ballroom & Supper Club to create food-themed art for display in their establishments, she said. “The result is a feast for the eyes which takes the viewer on a journey from the source of our food, to food as an artistic medium, to the tradition of food and how it is shared with the people we love.”
The opening reception will feature refreshments, art for sale and Main View Gallery’s book, “Suddenly There Were Leaves.” The anthology offers a collection of artwork created by Main View Gallery artists during the past eight years along with poems written during winter writing workshops led by Bertha Rogers. “Suddenly There Were Leaves” is edited by Rogers and published by Bright Hill Press.
“Food Glorious Food” will runs through Nov. 15. Hours for the gallery are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and by appointment. For more information, visit www.mainviewgallery.org or call 432-1890.
