---- — 6 On The Square will welcome back writer, teacher, guitarist, performer and vocalist Cliff Eberhardt to its stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. His music combines pop, rock and folk styles.
A driving force of the Greenwich Village New Folk movement and well-known among his peers, Eberhardt’s songs have been covered by the likes of Richie Havens, Buffy St. Marie, Erasure, Lucy Kaplansky and the folk superstar band Cry, Cry, Cry.
Last year Eberhardt was approached by director Aaron Posner, who has been a fan of his music for more than 20 years. Posner was director of the Folger Shakespeare Theatre’s production of the”Taming of the Shrew,” set in the Wild West circa 1880. Eberhardt composed and performed original music in the role of The Blind Balladeer. On April 9, at the Helen Hayes Awards gala event held at the Warner Theatre in Washington,, the show received the Outstanding Resident Play award.
Eberhardt joined Red House Records in 1997 and has recorded five albums for the label. His latest album, “Shrew Songs,” a limited edition CD, is all acoustic and features 11 songs from and inspired by the production of “Taming of the Shrew” as well as some of his classics that he also sang in the show.
