Norwich’s East Side Park will be the site of free concerts starting Thursday.
Musicians from diverse backgrounds will perform for the NBT Bank Free Thursdays series at 7 p.m. Thursdays. Kicking off the series on Thursday will be the New Riders of the Purple Sage, which have played the series for several years.
Second up will be the progressive bluegrass of Hot Day at the Zoo. The quintet mixes folk, blues, ragtime and bluegrass with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll. It was recognized as the Roots Act of the Year at the New England Music Awards.
On July 25, the park will host a performance of Eric Lindell and the Sunliners with guest guitarist Anson Funderburgh.
The Thursday shows will conclude with an appearance by the world-renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra. This version of the orchestra re-creates Miller’s vintage World War II-era hits and also plays other material in the Miller style.
Free music concerts will continue on Saturday, Aug. 3, with the second annual Chenango Summer Jam at East Side Park. There will be a full day of music by Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Cris Jacobs Band, Flow Tribe and more. The last of the shows will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Chenango County Fair. It’s free admission day at the Fair and the evening performance will feature the classic sounds of the Monarchs for one set and the twang of the Woodshed Prophets for one set.
The Thursday concerts, presented by the Chenango Blues Association, are sponsored by NBT Bank. For more information, visit www.chenangobluesfest.org.
