The Open Eye Theater will hold auditions Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at The Open Eye Theater at 960 Main St. in Margaretville. Actors in their early teens and older are being sought for three production and performance opportunities this summer.
“Too Many Frogs,” is a play for young audiences by Sandra Fenichel Asher, based on her award-winning book of the same title. Linda Sharpe will direct and Carol Jones Schwartz will stage manage. Performances will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4.
Characters are Rabbit, who lives alone and likes it that way — and likes to read to himself; and Frog, who has a large family and loves to go visiting and hear stories. Rabbit and Frog characters will be played by teen or adult actors, male or female. Young actors from The Open Eye Youth Theater Workshop will be involved as actors and puppeteers. Rehearsals will be July 22 through Aug. 2 during the day.
“Summer Shortcuts III” is a program of short comedies and dramas by various playwrights, including national and local writers, performing at 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 8 to 18. Open Eye producing artistic director Amie Brockway will coordinate and direct. There will also be guest directors. Characters include teens, young adults, 30-somethings, middle-aged folks, and senior adults. Rehearsals for individual plays will begin in mid-July, and will be scheduled during afternoons and evenings.
“Readings of Civil War Letters” is a collaborative project with the Historical Society of Middletown, and will take place at the HSM building at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. Two or three men and two or three women in their 20s to 60s are needed. Rehearsals will be the week of Aug.19.
Prepared 1-or 2-minute monologues are optional for auditioning actors; scenes will be provided. The Open Eye is also seeking directors, stage managers and production assistants for individual short plays in “Summer Shortcuts III.”
