European Celtic group Comas will perform at 6 On The Square in Oxford at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to a media release, “This group is made up of four of the most exciting international musicians of their generation including Aiden Burke, Irish fiddle-player extraordinaire. Comas’ original music is traditional, but infused with a modern edge. This amazingly driven quartet combines fiddle, guitar, uillean pipes, flute, and percussion for a unique and distinctively powerful performance.”
Comas came together as a band in 2003, but its members have toured individually with top acts such as The Drovers, Orion, Eileen Ivers, Urbantrad, Denez Prigent and the internationally acclaimed Liz Carroll. Within months of coming together, the group was playing in major festivals in Ireland, Belgium, France, England, Denmark and Holland.
The group, whose name translates from Irish Gaelic as “power,” features All-Ireland fiddle champion Aidan Burke; Isaac Alderson on flutes and uilleann pipes; Philip Masure of Belgium on guitar; and renowned bodhran player Jackie Moran, originally from Ireland.
Tickets are available at the discounted pre-show price of $18, plus $2 service charge, or $20 at the door. Doors open an hour before show time. For information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit www.6onthesquare.org.
