The Daily Star

---- — The Community Arts Network of Oneonta will host a trio of artists in the gallery at Wilber Mansion at 11 Ford Ave. in Oneonta. The show begins with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. today. It runs through Dec. 21.

The exhibit will feature the work of Jill Carey Michaels, photographs by Beth Brown and ceramic art by Kelly Sullivan.

Carey Michaels will exhibit “Highway Art,” a collection of mixed-media paintings that resulted from her travels across the United States. She was intrigued by the landscape of posters, billboards and signs she saw while traveling on the interstate, a media release said.

“Her interpretation of modern America is seen in these compelling studies of the regions and is a statement of our cultural landscape,” the release said.

Carey Michaels has a BFA in illustration from Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA in computer graphics from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She has worked in the computer graphic department for NBC, Court TV and various Internet companies while living in New York City. She teaches digital storytelling, perspective drawing, graphic design, website development, storyboard animation and art appreciation for SUNY Delhi, SUNY Empire Online and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online.

Brown will present a series of archival pigment photographs, which reflect her life in the Upper Catskills and in New York City. “The juxtaposition of images paints a striking similarity although the locations couldn’t be more different,” the release said.

Sullivan presents her ceramic world. The release describes her work as “everyday objects created with whimsy and simplicity.”
