Friends of Music to present violin and piano duet

---- — For the sixth concert of its 2012 season, Friends of Music will present violinist Katie Thomas and pianist Yoni Levyatov at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Frank W. Cyr Center on West Main Street in Stamford.

Thomas is an alumna of the 2011 Silver Jubilee Ensemble. She has performed in concerts including Carnegie and Merkin in the United States, as well as in venues in Europe and the Dominican Republic.

She studied at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Lucie Roberts, and she received the School of Music Merit Scholarship and the Hugo Kortschak Award for Outstanding achievement in chamber music. Thomas recently subbed with the North Carolina Symphony and also regularly performs with the Dominican Republic’s National Symphony.

Levyatov first met Thomas at the Manhattan Sch

The Israeli pianist and composer made his New York City concerto debut in 2005 as the winner of the Dora Zaslavsky Koch Competition under the baton of Philippe Entremont at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. He also performed the Schumann Piano Concerto in his Israeli debut with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

The pair will perform works by Mozart, Franck, Beach, Beethoven and Brahms.
