Jazz quintet to perform at Mother's Day dinner

Keith Pray will lead a jazz quintet with Diane Ducey on vocals and Rob Hunt on keyboard at a Mother’s Day Jazz Dinner at the B Side Ballroom at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Reservations are requested.

Pray is a saxophonist from the Albany area. He has played with Benny Golson, The Temptations and Paul Anka, and performed at the Newport Jazz Festival. He teaches jazz arranging and jazz history at local colleges, leads a number of big bands in the Capitol Region, and also directs the Proctors Summer Jazz Institute. In addition to a busy performance and teaching schedule, he has recorded five albums of his own compositions, and has performed on dozens of other recordings.

Ducey made her professional singing debut in France, before moving to Boston, New York City, and more recently, upstate New York. She loves swing and Latin tunes, and brings a smoky, bluesy quality to her favorite standards, according to a media release. Born in Chicago, raised in South Carolina, she has worked in almost every musical genre, from singing jazz in the streets of Paris during her junior year abroad to playing rock clubs and pop/jazz venues in Boston before heading to New York City where she did jingle demos and honed her craft.

Hunt will perform on keyboard. He is a well known jazz pianist in the Leatherstocking region, playing at the Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown, and other regional venues. Sadiq Abdushahid will be on drums. After recording in Detroit on various Motown tunes, Abdushahid moved to New York City where he played with many jazz greats including Milt Jackson, Ornette Coleman, Kenny Barron, and Pharoah Sanders. Chris Wolf-Gould will be on bass.

Dinner and entertainment is included in $35 price. Call 432-2053. The B Side Ballroom is at 1 Clinton Plaza in Oneonta, near the corner of Main and Market streets.
