---- — 6 On The Square will presents nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Peyton Tochterman at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tochterman is a musician from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia who writes, teaches and performs American folk music. He has overcome serious accidents and illness, crossed paths with musical greats, and has had fantastic trips all around the world, including most recently as a U.S. Cultural Arts Ambassador in Afghanistan, according to a media release.

Tochterman, born in Virginia, was a member of the bluegrass trio Fair Weather Bums, a solo songwriter on his album “The Personals,” and then involved in the band High Society. He was a sports journalist, was hit by a train and was also hit on the head by Kenny G.’s grand piano, and helped cast bronze sculptures for renowned artist Cy Twombly. Last year, he was invited by the U.S. State Department to spend two weeks touring Afghanistan as an American cultural arts ambassador, accompanied by Gary Green and Radoslav Lorkovic. He lectured and taught music, and gave mini-concerts in the school. The grand finale concert was in the historic Citadel of Herat.
