Zoom Gallery will host an opening of photographs by writer and illustrator of children’s books David Sears. “Meetings with Remarkable Sidewalks” will open with a reception from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the gallery at at 1164 Main St. in Fleischmanns.
Sears is well-known in the Hasidic community as a writer, art teacher and illustrator of children’s books. Later on, Sears focused his energies on writing, translating and teaching of Jewish mysticism, especially the works of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. About five years ago Sears began using a digital camera and its technology, “a transformation of his way of seeing the ordinary, common items of everyday life,” according to a media release from the gallery. Finding a time to concentrate on his photograph, Sears captured his way of seeing in photography, elevating the sidewalks feet take for granted to the level of the mind’s eye in his show, the release said.
Also on hand to celebrate the start of the season will be live music from the Klez Dispensers, a Klezmer band that has performed around the world, in and around New York City and on Belleayre Mountain at last year’s Octoberfest.
