---- — The West Kortright Centre in East Meredith will kick off its 2013 performance series with a concert by Lake Street Dive.
The concert will open the Centre’s 37th season at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Lake Street Dive — drummer Mike Calabrese, bassist Bridget Kearney, vocalist Rachael Price and trumpeter and guitarist Mike “McDuck” Olson — provides a myriad of possibilities within its members’ collective experiences, according to a media release.
Price was named one of five vocalists to watch in 2013 by Mother Jones.
The group formed when Olson gathered the other musicians in a room when they were students at Boston’s New England Conservatory.
Since then, they’ve won the 2006 John Lennon Songwriting Competition, released three albums, been profiled on NPR, appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion” and WFUV Radio (which named them a “New Artist to Watch in 2013”), and toured continuously.
The group toured in January with Yonder Mountain String Band, with singer/songwriter Josh Ritter in March, a night in Iowa with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Mavis Staples, and in Savannah with soul singer Lee Fields and the Expressions!
Members have had numerous festival appearances including Telluride Bluegrass, Floydfest, Savannah Music Festival, Pickathon, Winnipeg Folk and Sisters Folk Festival. The group will perform again locally on Sept. 14 at Brewery Ommegang as part of the Cooperstown Concert Series.
Tickets for the Saturday performance are $23, $20 for WKC members, or $11 for those younger than 19. For more information, call 278-5454, or visit www.westkc.org/performances.
