---- — B Side Ballroom and Supper Club will host two special musical events in the coming week.
The Evil City String Band will play at 9 p.m., with the Spectacular Average Boys and the Catskill Casket Company
The group grew out of the vibrant old-time Appalachian music scene that exists in and around the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
It plays a mix of traditional and original tunes and song. Richie Stearns, lead singer and on banjo, is founding member of the Horse Flies, and tours and records with Natalie Merchant and Carrie Rodriguez. He has released a solo CD. Rosie Newton on fiddle collaborates with Stephanie Jenkins in the Pearly Snaps and occasionally appears with the Mammals. Steve Selin on fiddle plays with the Hogwashers and Evil City Trio. Pat Burke on guitar performs with Gregor Sayet-Bone in the country blues duo, Burke and Bone. Ethan Jodziewicz on bass is studying double bass performance at Ithaca College.
On Tuesday, Luke Winslow-King, a guitarist, singer, composer, and lyricist known for his slide guitar work, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Winslow-King’s work consists of an eclectic mix, taking in Delta-folk music, classical composition, ragtime, and rock ‘n’ roll, juxtaposing original songs with those from a bygone era.
Performing years of weekly gigs on Frenchmen Street, Winslow-King has honed his sound and earned respect as leader among the young traditionalists, while playing to countless vacationers making musical pilgrimages to New Orleans.
