---- — American songs from 1850 through 1865 will be highlighted during “Four Seasons, Four Years — The Civil War: A Musical Journey” at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Kortright Centre, 49 West Kortright Church Road in East Meredith.
Eleven singers and musicians performing are Greg Artzner, Dan Berggren, Betsy Fry, Steve Fry, Reggie Harris, Terry Leonino, John Roberts, Bill Spence, Toby Stover, Susan Trump and George Wilson. The show is in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, a media release said.
They will perform popular songs of the period, as well as songs composed in response to the Civil War itself and events leading up to it, mixed with historical narrative specific to New York state and the New York volunteer regiments.
Pieces will include negro spirituals, shape-note hymns, marching songs, sentimental songs and selections written by 19th-century writers such as Stephen Foster, George F. Root, the Hutchinson Family and Henry C. Work
Presenters encourage attendees to bring a picnic lunch before the show, weather permitting.
