A librarian and coach at Stamford Central School has been accused of inappropriate sexual contact with a former student, according to a letter posted to the school's website.
The employee, who was not named in the letter, has been placed on administrative leave, and the incident reported to law enforcement and state educational officials. The Delaware County District Attorney's Office wil be leading the investigation, according to the letter, which was signed by Superintendent Katy Graves.
The letter, which can be read in full at http://www.stamfordcs.org/parentletter.pdf, describes the school's procedures for conducting background checks on employees.
"I cannot fully express how saddened we are by these reported allegations," Graves wrote in the letter. "At the same time, I urge everyone not to rush to judgment or speculate about what may or may not have happened. It is up to the authorities to fully investigate these allegations, and the school district will be fully cooperating in that process."
